【写真：サンティアゴ大聖堂遠景（2008年9月12日）】

自治政府の方々と別れた後は宿泊予定のサンティアゴ大学の寮に向かった。

大聖堂から20分程歩いて目的のキャンパスに到着した。しかし中島先生が受付で話をすると、何か手違いがあって、本来泊まる予定だった寮とは別の寮に泊まることになったらしい。
その寮まで移動するのに時間がかかるため、予定を繰り上げて2、3時間市内を観光してから寮に向かうことになった。

観光、といっても特に何か目的があるわけでもなかったから、友人たちと別れて一人で市内をふらつくことにした。

ふらふらと歩いていると、本屋を見つけた。日本からスペイン語の本を入手しようとすると送料がかかるため、何か面白い本でもあれば買って帰ろうと思い、立ち寄ることにした。
結局、小さな本屋だったので専門書は見当たらなかったが、ラデロ・ケサーダによるスペイン中世史の概説書と、ジャック・ル・ゴフの『中世とは何か』のスペイン語版を購入した。

土産が自分用の本だけというわけにもいかないので、友人用に何枚かポストカードを購入し、さらに町の中をふらふらと歩き回った。

As we went to a campus of the University of Santiago, it somehow turned out that we were to stay in a domitory of another campus. So we changed the plan and decided to go sightseeing. Though I didn't know what to do, I found a bookstore, where I bought some Spanish books on medieval history. And there I also bought some postcards for my friends in Japan. Cuando llegamos a un campus de la Universidad de Santiago, resultó que teníamos que dormir en una residencia de otro campus. Así que hemos cambiado el plan y decidimos hacer turismo en la ciudad. Aunque yo no sabía qué hacer, me encontré con una librería, donde compré algunos libros en español sobre la historia medieval. Y allí también compré algunas postales a mis amigos en Japón. 昼食会 / Lunch / Comida

新たに2、3人のガリシア自治政府役人の方が加わって、20人くらいで少し離れたレストランに歩いていった。

これまでカミーノを歩いてきて、昼食というとメヌー・デル・ディア、つまりメイン2皿にパンが付いてくる形式のものがほとんどだった。
今回もそんな感じだろうか、とぼんやり考えていたら、見事に予想が外れた。

レストランは、Ｔシャツで入るのはちょっと気が引けるような感じの洒落た内装だった。
席についたが、役人の方々とは少し離れた位置になってしまい、ほとんど話は出来なかった。
出てきた料理も、メヌーではなくて本格的なコース料理だった。

デザート、コーヒーまで出てきて、すっかり満腹になった後は、自治政府の方々にお礼を言って別れた。

目指すは本日の宿舎、サンティアゴ・デ･コンポステーラ大学である。

A few more officers of Galician government joined us and we went to the restaurant. I thought we would have menu del día, which we had many times while we were walking Camino, but it wasn't the case. We had a full-course meal. After eating, we said thanks to them and got apart, heading for the University of Santiago de Compostela, where we were to stay this night.

Algunos más oficiales del Gobierno gallego se unieron a nosotros y nos fuimos al restaurante. Pensé que tendríamos menú del día, que teníamos muchas veces mientras caminábamos en el Camino de Santiago, pero no fue así. Tuvimos cubierto. Después de comer, dábamos gracias a ellos y nos apartamos, en dirección a la Universidad de Santiago de Compostela, donde íbamos a quedar esta noche.

巡礼者たちと食前酒 / Pilgrims and aperitif / Peregrinos y aperitivo

大聖堂の外で待っていたのは、アウグスティンとダヴィだった。
お互いに無事にサンティアゴまで来て再会できたことを喜びあった。

そうして写真を撮り終わると、メリデ付近で出会ったラケルたちにも再会できた。
ひとしきり話して写真を撮って、彼らとはお別れした。

その後、今回の講習を担当してくれたガリシア自治政府の役人の方と合流した。
地下にある小さなバルに入って、食前酒として一杯だけワインを飲んだ。

話によると、この後の昼食会は別のレストランであるらしい。

Outside of the Cathedral, Augustin and David were waiting for us. We were so happy that we could meet here again. We also found Raquel and others who we had met around Meride. We took photos each other. After that, officers of the Galician government joined us and we went to a underground bar, where we had a glass of wine as aperitif. Then they told us that we were having lunch in another restaurant.

Fuera de la catedral, Augustin y David nos estaban esperando. Estábamos tan contentos de que podríamos encontrarnos de nuevo aquí en Santiago. También me encontró a Raquel y otros a los que habíamos conocido en Meride. Tomamos fotos unos a otros. Después de eso, los funcionarios de la Xunta de Galicia se unieron a nosotros y nos fuimos a un bar subterráneo, donde bebímos vino como aperitivo. Luego nos dijeron que estábamos comiendo en otro restaurante.

ミサが始まると、大司教がしばらく話した後で、賛美歌が歌われた。
（どちらもほとんど内容は聞き取れなかった。）

そしてミサの最後に、ボタフメイロ（大香炉）が振られた。

元々は長旅をしてきた巡礼者たちの臭い消しのためにボタフメイロは利用されていたという。
これまで書いてきたように、今ではかなりシャワー設備が整えられており、お湯も利用可能なので必ずしも必要ではないが、ボタフメイロが大聖堂の中を大きく揺れ動く様子は中々に印象的だった。

ミサが終わってから、大聖堂の外へ出る前に祭壇の下にあるという聖ヤコブの墓を見学した。
祭壇上の聖ヤコブ像に触れることもできるらしいが、このときは機会を逃してしまった。

そして、外へ出ると久しぶりに見る顔があった。

After the Archbishop of Santiago talked, people sang hymns. Then the Botafumeiro was swung. I heard it was originally used in order to neutralize the smell of pilgrims who had walked long long distance. The scene was very impressive. After the mass, we visited the tomb of St. James but lost chance to touch the statue of St. James on the altar. When we got out of the Cathedral, we found some people we knew.

El arzobispo de Santiago hablaba algo y luego los participantes de la misa cantaban algunos himnos. Y el botafumeiro estaban oscilando. Dicen que el botafumeiro era usado para quitar el olor a los peregrinos que habían andado mucho tiempo. Depués de la misa, hemos visitado el sepulcro de Santiago pero no hubo oportunidad de tocar la estatua de Santiago en el altar. Cuando salimos de la catedral, nos encontraba con las personas a las que conocimos en Camino.

事務所を出て、大聖堂で行われるミサに参列することになった。

大聖堂の中に入ると、既にかなりの人が集まっていた。
巡礼者だけではなく、サンティアゴの市民も来ているのだろうか。
何とか16人分の席をまとめて確保したものの、ミサの開始まではまだ30分ほどあるとのことだったので、少し街の中を見物して回った。

そして、大聖堂に戻ってしばらく座っていると、いよいよミサが始まった。

After we got the compostelana, we went to the Cathedral in order to attend a mass. There were a lot of people, but we could reserve the seats for all of us. We had about thirty minutes till the mass starts, so went to look around the city. When we were back, the mass was about to start. Después obituvimos las compostelanas, fuimos a la Catedral para oír misa. Había un montón de gente, pero podríamos reservar los asientos para todos nosotros. Tuvimos unos treinta minutos hasta la misa comienza, por lo que fue a ver la ciudad. Cuando regresamos a la Catedral, la misa estaba a punto de comenzar.
