　昨日はあれだけ歩いて、スペイン語で講義を聞いて、夜中まで飲んで踊って疲れている……はずなのに、6時45分頃に目が覚めた。早起き、というには少し遅い気もしたが、日本にいるときに比べれば格段に早いことは確かだった。

　昨日買っておいたパンを軽く食べて、7時半過ぎにはポルトマリーンを出た。

　辺りはまだ暗い。

　昨日までは、ポンフェラーダやサリーアのような都市もあったが、基本的には山道が中心だったが、この日は町の郊外のような、比較的平地の道を歩いた（といってもアップダウンがかなりあった……丘陵地帯、とでもいうのだろうか）。

　車道の道を、ただひたすらに、歩く。

Though yesterday we walked that much and listened to a class in fast Spanish and drank and danced till midnight and must have been tired, I got up as early as at 6:45 in the morning. Eating some bread I bought yesterday, leaving Portomarín at half past seven, we walked dark way along a road on a plain, which seemed different from the mountainous roads we had walked through and the cities like Ponferrada or Sarria. 一人で一旦アルベルゲに戻り、ビールを持って広場に戻ってくると、アウグスティンやダヴィに誘われて講習のメンバーたちも楽しげに踊っていた。メンバー同士で踊っているところもあれば、アウグスティンあるいはダヴィと踊っているメンバーもおり、さらには見ず知らずの人と踊っているメンバーもいた。

最終的には前の人の肩に両手でつかまって長い列を作り、広場の半分くらいの人間を巻き込んで大きな渦を作り、バンドの演奏する音楽に合わせて踊っていた。

結局、日付が変わるくらいまで踊り、飲んだ。

アルベルゲに戻り眠りにつく時には、非常に楽しい、陽気な夜に感謝しつつも、朝起きられるだろうかという不安が頭をよぎった。

　講義後は、講義担当の先生に連れられて、サン・フアン教会前の広場を一回りした。まだ祭りは始まっていないようだったが、既にたくさんの人々が集まっていた。ポルトマリーンのまちはそれほど大きくない気がする、と思ったが、どうやら巡礼者も多数混じっているらしい。

　講義担当の先生と別れて広場近くのバルに入り、相変わらずボリュームたっぷりのメヌーを食べ終えたのが10時頃だっただろうか。

　バルの外に出てみると、ステージでは既にバンドによる演奏が始まっていた。まちの人々や巡礼者がステージ前に集まって演奏を聴いている。中には、手を取り合って踊っている人たちもいた。その中に、見覚えのある顔があった。アウグスティンとダヴィである。

After the lecture, the lecturer woman took us around the central square and the church of San Juan. Though the festival seemed not to have started, many people were there. We had dinner in a bar near the square, and came back there at around 10 p.m., when the band had already started to play. Among the people listening to and dancing to the music, we found our friends, Augustin and David. 　20世紀になっても、サン・フアン教会は川の傍に、中世と同じ場所に佇んでいた。しかし、20世紀半ばになるとミーニョ川でのダム計画が持ち上がったため、ポルトマリーンの町を移動することが決定された。

　しかしながら、町全体を完璧な状態で移動させるには莫大な費用がかかるため、サン・フアン教会と二つの町をつないでいた橋の一部のみが昔を残したまま現在の位置に移動されることとなった。筆者がポルトマリーンに到着したときに、橋から見えた階段のようなものが、この橋の一部であったらしい（巡礼者はこの階段を登るものだ、と後から中島先生が教えてくれた）。

　サン・フアン教会は1946年に国の歴史的な宝と認められていたこともあり、サンティアゴへの巡礼の伝統を維持するために移動の対象となった。他にも建物の一部、特に柱やアーチ、家紋を彫った石などが新ポルトマリーンに移され、町の中心のサン・フアン教会前の広場に集められているため、中央広場は博物館的な性格も持ち合わせている。

　ポルトマリーンの移動が実行されたのは1960年から64年の間である。というのも、1965年は聖ヤコブの年であり、それに合わせて開村１周年記念行事を行うことを目標としていたからである。また、7月25日は聖ヤコブの祝日であるから、開村の日はそれに合わせることとなった。

　ダム計画に端を発するこの移動計画には、近世以降のサンティアゴへの巡礼者の減少が危惧されたために、巡礼の復興という意図も込められていた。スペイン内戦のために経済が停滞していた時期であるにもかかわらず、それまでに前例のないこれだけの大事業が実行に移されたことからも、この計画に込めた期待の大きさが伺える。


　……というような話を、1時間ほど聞いた。実際にはもっと詳細な説明があったが、十分に理解することができなかった。スペイン語力の無さ、ということもあるのだが、言い訳をすれば、先生の話が少し速かったせいだ、と思う。

In the 1950s, there came up a project of making a dam across the Miño river and it was necessary for the town of Portomarín to move to another place. It was difficult, however, to move the whole town, so they decided to move only the church of San Juan and the bridge, which was connecting two parts of the town, as exactly they were. That was because the church of San Juan was recognised as a historical treasure. Adding to them, parts of the buildings like a pillar were also moved to the central plaza of new Portomarín, which now seems like a museum. Portomarín was moved betweem 1960 and 1964 in order to celebrate the anniversary of new Portomarín on July 25th1965, which was the feast day of Santiago and the Jubilee year. This project also aimed at increasing the number of pilgrims to Santiago de Compostela. Though the Spanish economy was in decline because of the Spanish Civil War, a lot of money which was spent to this project made me understand how much people were concerned with the pilgrimage. A story like that was told us by a lecturer, but I could not understand it perfectly, partly because of my Spanish, but I think it was mainly because she spoke too fast .... Durante años 50 del siglo XX, apareció un proyecto de construir un dique en el río Miño, y necesitaba reconstruir Portomarín nuevo en otro sitio. Pero fue difícil reconstruir toda la ciudad, entonces se reconstruían solo la iglesia de San Juan y la puente conectando dos partes de la ciudad. Los edificios como pillar parcialmente se habían reconstruido en la plaza central de Portomarín nuevo, que parece ahora como un museo. Portomarín se mudó entre 1960 y 1964 para celebrar el anniversario el 25 de julio de 1965, que es la fiesta litúrgica de Santiago y Año Santo Jacobeo. Este proyecto tambien intentaba que el número de los peregrinos se aumentaría. Aunque la economía española estaba en decadancia después de la guerra civil española, se gastaba mucho dinero, que me parecía comó se preocupaba la peregrinación a Santiago de Compostela. Nos contaba la profesora, pero no había entendido mucho parcialmente a causa de mi mal entendimiento de español, pero principalmente a causa de que ella contaba muy rápido .... 　町が祭りの開始を待ちきれない雰囲気になる中で、アルベルゲのロビーのような場所に椅子をならべて簡単に会場が作られ、ポルトマリーンの歴史に関する講義が行われた。

　講義の前半、洗濯機を回す順番待ちのせいで多少聞けなかった部分もあるのだけれど、今回の講義についてまとめてみよう。ちなみに、今回の講義は美術史を専門とする先生が担当してくれ、建築様式に関する部分もあったのだが、全体としては町としてのポルトマリーンの歴史だったように思う。

　ポルトマリーンと呼ばれる町は12世紀から既に存在していたらしい。フランスからのサンティアゴ巡礼が盛んになる時期とほぼ一致する。しかし、中世のポルトマリーンは現在のポルトマリーンとは異なる場所に存在していた。新旧どちらのポルトマリーンにも共通しているのは、町の中心のサン・フアン教会である。

　中世のポルトマリーンはミーニョ川を挟んで対岸に位置する二つの町から成っていた。サン・フアンとサン・ペドである。二つの町はミーニョ川にかかる橋でつながっていた。当時から存在していたサン・フアン教会は、次第に城砦としての機能を持つようになっていったらしい。

In the albergue, we heard a lecture about the history of the town of Portomarín, which was delivered by a professor of, perhaps, art history. The town called Portomarín had existed since twelfth century, when pilgrimage from France to Santiago became popular. But medieval Portomarín was not in the place where now Portomarín is. In both Portomarín, now and then, there exists the church of San Juan in the center of the town. In the middle ages, Portomarín was consisted of two towns on the different side of the Miño river, both of which are connected by a bridge. Hay y había la iglesia de San Juan en ambos Portomarín. En la edad media, Portomarín estaba constado de dos partes en diferente lado del río Miño, ambos de las cuales estaba conectado por un puente. 再会 (2) / Met Again (2) / Encuentro de nuevo (2)

　新しく到着した2人も加えて4人でアルベルゲに戻ると、入り口のところで、アウグスティンら以前ラバナルで出会った巡礼者たち3人と再会することができた。

　あれから1週間近くスペインに滞在しているにもかかわらず、相変わらずの英語・スペイン語交じりで会話をこなした。日本にいる時と比べて格段にスペイン語を使う機会があるのに、これでは……と思いつつも、どうすることもできなかった。

　アウグスティンから、最初に一緒に歩いていたハリーが体調を崩してペースが遅れていると聞いて、心配になった（結局のところ、サンティアゴ・デ・コンポステーラ到着後も彼と会う機会はなかった。サンティアゴを離れる直前に、彼が無事サンティアゴに到着したらしいという話を聞いて安心できたが、最後に話す機会がなかったのは非常に残念である）。

　夕食後に、祭りを見ながら飲む用に、と先程のスーパーでエストレジャ・ガリシアを買ったりしているうちに、5時過ぎたくらいになり、中島先生を含む残りのメンバーも皆到着した。全員がシャワーを浴び、少ない洗濯機でなんとか段取りをつけて一段落したところで、先生から講義が始まるとのお達しがあった。

Four of us arrived at the albergue. There we met again "amigos," Augustin and David ond others, who we met before in Rabanal del Camino. I talked with them in easy Spanish and broken English and heard that Harry was walking slowly because he was in poor health. Though I was worried about him, I couldn't meet him again in the end. When the other members arrived at the albergue and we all had a shower and did the washing, Ms. Nakajima told us that the lecture of the day were going to start. アイスクリーム / Ice cream / Helado

ポルトマリーンのアルベルゲに行くと、中島先生がすでに手配していてくれたらしく、すんなりと16人分のベッドを確保することができた。しかし、アルベルゲのおばちゃんの曰く、使えるようにするまでまだ時間がかかる、とのこと。
仕方がないのでその間にシャワーを浴びさせてもらうことにした。

温かい湯を浴びながら、昨日のサモスで洗濯機がなく手洗いをせざるを得なかったために洗えなかった洗濯物のこと、今夜あるはずの2回目の講義のこと、そのあとで開催されるはずの祭りのこと、などをぼんやりと考えた。

シャワーを終えて、アルベルゲの入り口で涼んでいると、一緒に到着したメンバーもシャワーを終えて出てきた。ふらふらと2人で近くのスーパーへ行き、ポルトマリーンへ来る途中で先生へ電話してもらう代わりに、ということで約束していたアイスクリームを買って、近くの階段で座って食べていた。すると、2番目のグループが到着したところに出くわした。一緒にアルベルゲに戻りつつ、後方の様子を聞いたりした。

アルベルゲに戻るときには祭りの準備をしている様子が見えた。大きなステージがあり、本格的な演奏がされるらしい。

As we got to the albergue of Portomarín, we could find enough beds for sixteen people. While the caretakers were preparing the beds, we took a shower and went to a supermarket to buy an ice cream which I had promised my companion to buy on the way to Portomarín in return for a call to Ms. Nakajima. When we're eating the ice cream sitting on a stone step, two other members arrived. Going back to the albergue, we saw people preparing for the festival. 小さな村をいくつか抜けると、急に視界が開けてきた。
この先はどうやら道が下っているらしい。
遠くの方に、まちが見えてきた。
と同時に、川も見えた。結構大きな川だ。

かなり急な坂を降りていくと、橋が見えた。
橋の向こうにはポルトマリーンを思しきまちが見える。
橋には、「ミーニョ川Río Miño」と書かれていた。

長い橋を渡ると、何か階段のようなものが見えた。

とりあえず近くにいた住人にアルベルゲの場所を尋ねると、右手の坂を登っていくとあると言うので、いわれたとおりに歩いていく。
公園を通り過ぎて、スーパーマーケットを見つけたが、シエスタの時間なのか開いていなかった。
とりあえず、それらしい方向に歩いていくと、ようやくアルベルゲが見つかった。

この日は33km程歩いたはずだ。
長い道のりではあり、確かに疲れはしたが、1週間歩き続けて足が慣れていたし、セブレイロ峠越えに比べれば大したことはなかったように思う。

Walking through some villages, we could see a long downhill slope and a big river. When we came to the river, we found a long bridge which says "Río Miño," and beyond the bridge we could see the town of Portomarín. Having crossed the bridge, we asked a townsman where a public albergue was and he showed the way. Following the direction, we could find the albergue. On this day we walked more than 33 kilometers, which seemed me less harder than the pass of O Cebreiro. Andando por algunas villas, nos encontrabamos a una cuesta larga y a un río grande. Cuando llegamos al río, había un puente que decía "Río Miño," y más allá del puente pudimos ver la villa de Portomarín. Después de cruzar el puente, preguntabamos a un ciudadano dónde estaba un albergue publico y él nos enseñaba. Siguiendo la dirección, pudimos encontrarnos al albergue. En este día, andabamos más que 33 kilometros pero me parecía menos arduo que O Cebreiro. 残り100km / Only 100km left / 100km hasta Santiago

サリアを出るまでに、前を歩く3人のメンバーに追いついた。
話を聞くと、さらに先に2、3人歩いているだろう、ということだった。
ここ数日（というか、カカベロスに到着した日以外全部？）、ずっと先頭で歩いていたので、この日も何としても先頭集団に追いつこう、と思った。

サリアのまちを抜けると、すぐに森が広がっていた。
森の入口には写真のように、線路が走っていた。

森を抜けると、炎天下の平原が続いた。
所々に木が生えていて、林のような感じだったけれど、日光を遮る程ではなかった。
ぽつりぽつりと、家が立っていて、人が住んでいるようだった。

サリアから30分ほどのところで、道から離れたところにある休憩所で休んでいた2人のメンバーを見つけた。
手を振って合図を送り、先を急いだ。
たしか、この後あたりから、先を歩いているもう1人のメンバーに追いつくべく、一人で歩いていったと思う。

30分、いや、1時間ほど歩いただろうか。
何人もの巡礼者を「Buen Camino」の挨拶とともに追い越した後で、ようやく目的の後ろ姿を見つけることができた。
彼女に追いついて、一緒にしばらく歩いていると、「道の左手」に件のマイルストーンが見え、そこには「100km」の数字が刻まれていた。
二人で喜びを分かち合い、誰もいなかったので手を伸ばして無理やりツーショットを撮った。

ところが、である。
そこから5分も歩かないうちに、「道の右手」にマイルストーンが現れ、その周囲には3、4人の巡礼者が体を休めていた。
マイルストーンには、「K.100」と刻まれている。
これが、本物だった。
本来は「道の右手」にしか置かないものだということは、後から中島先生が教えてくれた。

本物のマイルストーンを写真に収め、近くにいた巡礼者に写真を撮ってもらい、先へと進んだ。
10分ほど歩くと、小さな村があった。
幸いにもバルがあったので、2人で100kmを切った記念に乾杯することにした。
（といっても、昼間からアルコールを飲んだのは僕だけだったが。）

休憩もほどほどに、先へ進むと、小さな家の横を通り過ぎる際に、住人と思しきおばあさんが出迎えて（？）くれた。
日本人が珍しいのか、いろいろと話をしてくれた。
ポルトマリーンに泊まる予定だ、ということを伝えると、早口で、ガリシアなまりっぽい感じのスペイン語で、ポルトマリーンで今夜祭りがあるらしいことを教えてくれた。皆が夜中に踊るのだという。

おばあさんに礼を言い、祭りを楽しみにしつつポルトマリーンへと向かった。

In the city of Sarria, I could catch up with the three members, who told me that a few members were walking ahead of us. Leaving Sarria, soon there was a big forest and a railway like the photo. After 30 minutes walk, the four of us found two members who were resting. There I decided to walk faster to catch up with the first one and said goodby to others. About an hour walk took me to her. She and I got to a milestone, which showed "100km" but turned out to be a false one. We walked five more minutes and got to the true one, which showed "K.100", and had a pilgrim take a photo of us. In the next small village, we rested for a while and there I drunk beer and she drunk oranje juice in memory of 100km. Heading for Portomarín, passing by a small house, an old woman came out and we talked a little. She told us, in a fast, a little Galician-sounded Spanish, that there would be a festival in Portomarín that night. We're looking forward to it. En la ciudad de Sarria, pudé alcanzar a los tres miembros del curso Camino, quien me dijeron que otros dos o tres miembros estaban andando adelante. Cerca de Sarria, hay un bosque y una vía férrea como la foto. Después de andar 30 minbutos, encontrabamos a otros dos miembros, quien estaban descansandose. Entonces, me decidí a andar más rápido para alcanzar a la primera. Después de una hora, más o menos, alcancé a ella y llegamos a un hito que dice "100km" pero que resultaba ser falso. Andabamos cinco más minutos y llegamos al hito de verdad que dice "K.100". Un peregrino nos sacó una foto. En la siguiete villa, nos descansabamos y yo bebía una cerveza y ella, zumo de naranja, en memoria de 100,0km. Durante andabamos a Portomarín, una mujer vieja hablaba con nosotros.
