【写真：サンティアゴ・デ・コンポステーラ大聖堂（2008年9月12日）】


このブログは、基本的には2008年9月にスペインのサンティアゴ巡礼路を歩いた時の記録です。

筆者はキリスト教徒ではありませんが、歴史学を学ぶ学生として、カミーノ講習に参加し、多くの刺激を受けることができました。
各エントリィは帰国後に、巡礼中のメモ、日記、写真を参考にして書いたレポートを基に、加筆訂正を加える形で公開していく予定です。

巡礼に興味のある方、巡礼に行かれた方、皆様にお楽しみいただければと思います。

バル / Bar

サンティアゴまでの巡礼を既に終えて、翌日はもう歩く必要もないということで、既に日付は変わっていたが、レストランの近くにあったバルへ行ってお酒を飲むことにした。

なぜだか狭い店内は非常に混んでいて騒がしく、ほとんどの人が立ったままお酒を飲んでいた。

注文したお酒を受け取った後は、講習のメンバー同士で話しているのももったいないと思ったので、近くで飲んでいる人たちに声をかけた。アルゼンチン人で今はバルセロナに住んでいる、というよく分からない経歴の２人組の男性だとか、サンティアゴに住んでいるおじいさんと話しながら飲んだ。酔っている上に、相変わらず英語を交えないと会話が成立しない箇所もあり、何を話したかはあまり覚えていない。

しばらくして、もう寮に帰って休む、というメンバーもいたので、一旦その場で解散した。もう少し飲みたいと思ったメンバーで次のバルに移動した。こちらもやはり人が多く満員に近かったが、ロック系の音楽もかかっていて、若い人が多かった。

再びビールを注文して、先ほどのバルで一緒に話していた人たちとしばらく飲んでいたが、立ったまま飲んでいたせいか、連日歩き続けたせいか分からないが、酔いが回ってきたので早々に退散することにした。

部屋に戻ると、既に3時を回っていたので、すぐに眠りに着いた。

For we had finished the pilgrimage and didn't have to walk any more, we went to a bar to drink more. It was already after midnight. The bar was a small one and full of people talking so loudly. I thought it exciting to talk with the people, so I speak to a few people around me. Drinking some beer, I talked with two Argentines who were then living in Barcelona, and with a old man living in Santiago. As always, I talked in Spanish and in English. Then, some members of the Course were leaving to rest in the dormitory. But me and some other members went to another bar, which was full of younger people and rock music. I was still talking with the Argentines, drinking another bottle of beer. It was very good night but I felt somehow tired, maybe because of long walk or drinking while standing. So I left there saying goodbye to them. When I came back to my room of the dormitory, it was already 3 o'clock, so I went to bed soon. (Photo: The second bar, 12 Sep 2008.)

Porque habíamos terminado la peregrinación y no teníamos que caminar más, fuimos a un bar para beber más. Ya era pasada la medianoche. El bar era pequeño y lleno de gente hablando en voz tan alta. Me pareció interesante hablar con la gente, así que hablaba con algunas personas a mi alrededor. Bebiendo un poco de cerveza, hablé con dos argentinos que vivían entonces en Barcelona, y con un anciano de Santiago. Como siempre, me habló en español y en inglés. Entonces, algunos miembros del Curso se iban a descansar en la residencia. Pero yo y otros miembros fueron a otro bar, que estaba lleno de gente más joven y la música rock. Todavía estaba hablando con los argentinos, bebiendo otra botella de cerveza. Era la noche muy buena, pero me sentía de alguna manera cansado, tal vez por caminata o beber de pie. サンティアゴでの夕食は、これまで通りレストランで取ることになった。

サンティアゴ大学からレストランまで、10分か15分ほど歩いただろうか。長い道のりを歩き終えた開放感も手伝ってか、他愛のない話をしながら店に入る。

運ばれてきた料理を食べながら、旅の途中の思い出話で盛り上がった。初日に、アストルガから歩いたこと。雨の中、高速道路の横をひたすら歩き続けたこと。山を越えて、30km以上歩いた日のこと。地元のお祭りに参加しておどったこと……。

話は尽きなかったが、仲間の一人が誕生日だったので、レストランの店員にお願いしてケーキを用意してもらった。サンティアゴに着いてからメンバーが用意したプレゼントを渡したところ、喜んでもらえたようだった。

食事の代金を支払って、レストランを出ようとしたとき、店員さんに「お店のＴシャツかっこいいね」と言うと、何故か人数分用意してくれた（その赤いＴシャツは、今も大事に取ってある）。

店員さんにお礼を言って、夜のサンティアゴへと出た。

Sorry for being so late.

We had dinner in a reastaurant. Since we left the dormitory, we kept talking so much about the pilgrimage we had done. Astorga, the rainy day, the day when we walked more than 30km, the local festival, and more .... During dinner, we had one member whose birthday was this day, so we gave her a present, which seemed to have pleased her, and we ate cake. When we're going out, we told a clerk that he weared a nice T-shirt, then he proposed to give it to all of us. We thanked him and recieved them. Now it's the time to enjoy the night of Santiago. Cenamos en un restaurante. Desde que salimos de la residencia, seguíamos hablando mucho sobre la peregrinación que habíamos hecho. Durante la cena, había un miembro cuyo cumpleaños fue el día de hoy, por lo que le dimos un regalo, que parecía placerle, y entonces comimos torta. Cuando vamos a salir del restaurante, dijimos a un empleado que se ponía una camiseta bonita, a continuación, nos proponía darlas a todos nosotros. Así que le dimos las gracias y los recibimos. 寮 / Dormitory / Residencia

待ち合わせ場所の大聖堂前広場に向かう途中、メリデ付近で一緒に歩いた巡礼者の女性陣と再会した。写真を撮ったりアドレスを交換したりした。

大聖堂から寮までは歩いて15分ほどだった。大学の寮と言っても、想像していたよりもずっときれいな建物だった。日本の、国立大学の学生寮からはとても想像できないような、きれいな外観・内装で、すべて一人部屋のようだった。
欧米と日本における教育への力の入れようの違いのようなものを感じた。

各自部屋に戻り、シャワーを浴びた後、夕食を食べに行くこととなった。

When I was walking to the square in front of the Cathdral, where we were to meet, I met some women that I had talked with when I was walking near Meride. We talked for seome time, took pictures and exchanged our e-mail addresses. From the square, we walked for about fifteen minutes to the dormitory, which was much better than I expected from ones in Japan. We were given a room for each person. Caminando a la plaza que está enfrente de la Cathdral, donde decidimos reunirnos, me encontré a algunas mujeres con quienes había hablado cuando estaba caminando cerca de Meride. Hablamos un momento, tomamos fotos e intercambiamos nuestras direcciones de email. Desde la plaza, caminamos durante unos quince minutos hasta la residencia, que era mucho mejor de lo que esperaba de los de Japón. Nos dieron una habitación para cada persona. 観光 / Sightseeing /Turismo

自治政府の方々と別れた後は宿泊予定のサンティアゴ大学の寮に向かった。

大聖堂から20分程歩いて目的のキャンパスに到着した。しかし中島先生が受付で話をすると、何か手違いがあって、本来泊まる予定だった寮とは別の寮に泊まることになったらしい。
その寮まで移動するのに時間がかかるため、予定を繰り上げて2、3時間市内を観光してから寮に向かうことになった。

観光、といっても特に何か目的があるわけでもなかったから、友人たちと別れて一人で市内をふらつくことにした。

ふらふらと歩いていると、本屋を見つけた。日本からスペイン語の本を入手しようとすると送料がかかるため、何か面白い本でもあれば買って帰ろうと思い、立ち寄ることにした。
結局、小さな本屋だったので専門書は見当たらなかったが、ラデロ・ケサーダによるスペイン中世史の概説書と、ジャック・ル・ゴフの『中世とは何か』のスペイン語版を購入した。

土産が自分用の本だけというわけにもいかないので、友人用に何枚かポストカードを購入し、さらに町の中をふらふらと歩き回った。

As we went to a campus of the University of Santiago, it somehow turned out that we were to stay in a domitory of another campus. So we changed the plan and decided to go sightseeing. Though I didn't know what to do, I found a bookstore, where I bought some Spanish books on medieval history. And there I also bought some postcards for my friends in Japan. 昼食会 / Lunch / Comida

新たに2、3人のガリシア自治政府役人の方が加わって、20人くらいで少し離れたレストランに歩いていった。

これまでカミーノを歩いてきて、昼食というとメヌー・デル・ディア、つまりメイン2皿にパンが付いてくる形式のものがほとんどだった。
今回もそんな感じだろうか、とぼんやり考えていたら、見事に予想が外れた。

レストランは、Ｔシャツで入るのはちょっと気が引けるような感じの洒落た内装だった。
席についたが、役人の方々とは少し離れた位置になってしまい、ほとんど話は出来なかった。
出てきた料理も、メヌーではなくて本格的なコース料理だった。

デザート、コーヒーまで出てきて、すっかり満腹になった後は、自治政府の方々にお礼を言って別れた。

目指すは本日の宿舎、サンティアゴ・デ･コンポステーラ大学である。

A few more officers of Galician government joined us and we went to the restaurant. I thought we would have menu del día, which we had many times while we were walking Camino, but it wasn't the case. We had a full-course meal. After eating, we said thanks to them and got apart, heading for the University of Santiago de Compostela, where we were to stay this night.

大聖堂の外で待っていたのは、アウグスティンとダヴィだった。
お互いに無事にサンティアゴまで来て再会できたことを喜びあった。

そうして写真を撮り終わると、メリデ付近で出会ったラケルたちにも再会できた。
ひとしきり話して写真を撮って、彼らとはお別れした。

その後、今回の講習を担当してくれたガリシア自治政府の役人の方と合流した。
地下にある小さなバルに入って、食前酒として一杯だけワインを飲んだ。

話によると、この後の昼食会は別のレストランであるらしい。

Outside of the Cathedral, Augustin and David were waiting for us. We were so happy that we could meet here again. We also found Raquel and others who we had met around Meride. We took photos each other. After that, officers of the Galician government joined us and we went to a underground bar, where we had a glass of wine as aperitif. Then they told us that we were having lunch in another restaurant.

ミサが始まると、大司教がしばらく話した後で、賛美歌が歌われた。
（どちらもほとんど内容は聞き取れなかった。）

そしてミサの最後に、ボタフメイロ（大香炉）が振られた。

元々は長旅をしてきた巡礼者たちの臭い消しのためにボタフメイロは利用されていたという。
これまで書いてきたように、今ではかなりシャワー設備が整えられており、お湯も利用可能なので必ずしも必要ではないが、ボタフメイロが大聖堂の中を大きく揺れ動く様子は中々に印象的だった。

ミサが終わってから、大聖堂の外へ出る前に祭壇の下にあるという聖ヤコブの墓を見学した。
祭壇上の聖ヤコブ像に触れることもできるらしいが、このときは機会を逃してしまった。

そして、外へ出ると久しぶりに見る顔があった。

After the Archbishop of Santiago talked, people sang hymns. Then the Botafumeiro was swung. I heard it was originally used in order to neutralize the smell of pilgrims who had walked long long distance. The scene was very impressive. After the mass, we visited the tomb of St. James but lost chance to touch the statue of St. James on the altar. When we got out of the Cathedral, we found some people we knew.

事務所を出て、大聖堂で行われるミサに参列することになった。

大聖堂の中に入ると、既にかなりの人が集まっていた。
巡礼者だけではなく、サンティアゴの市民も来ているのだろうか。
何とか16人分の席をまとめて確保したものの、ミサの開始まではまだ30分ほどあるとのことだったので、少し街の中を見物して回った。

そして、大聖堂に戻ってしばらく座っていると、いよいよミサが始まった。

After we got the compostelana, we went to the Cathedral in order to attend a mass. There were a lot of people, but we could reserve the seats for all of us. We had about thirty minutes till the mass starts, so went to look around the city. When we were back, the mass was about to start. これが、僕が獲得したコンポステラーナ（免罪符）です。
写真では分かりにくいので、まず原文から。

CAPITULUM hujus Almae Apostolicae et Metropolitanae Ecclesiae Compostellanae sigilli Altaris Beati Jacobi Apostoli custos, ut omnibus Fidelibus et Peregrinis ex toto terrarum Orbe, devotionis affectu vel voti causa, ad limina Apostoli Nostri Hispaniarum Patroni ac Tutelaris SANCTI JACOBI convenientibus, authenticus visitationis litteras expediat, omnibus et singulis praesentes inspecturis, notum facit: D(omi)num Akito Kidani hoc sacratissimum Templum pietatis causa devote visitasse. 　使徒と大司教の寛大なるコンポステーラ教会の聖堂参事会が、すなわち祝福されし使徒ヤコプの祭壇の御璽を護る者が、全世界より信者と巡礼者が、畏敬の念を持ち、誓いを立てて、我らの使徒でありヒスパニアの守護聖人であり守護者である聖ヤコブの墓所へと集うとき、その巡礼に対して真正なる文言を語るために、全員に向けて、一人一人に向けてこの文言を読み上げることで、以下のことを知らしめる。木谷明人氏が、この神聖な聖堂へと、敬虔にも徒歩によって巡礼したこと。その誠実さに従い、以上の文言を、この聖なる教会の御璽により証明されたものとして、彼の者に授ける。

大聖堂の右手へと続く道を辿っていくと、巡礼事務所Oficina de peregrinosの建物が見えて来た。
ここで、スタンプを押したクレデンシアルと引き換えに、巡礼証明書であるコンポステラーナを受け取るのだ。

事務所は二階にあるらしく、そこへ続く階段には大勢の巡礼者たちが並んでいた。
これまでに歩いて来た中で出会った巡礼者たちにも会えるかと期待したが、ここでは会うことはできなかった。

なかなか進まない列に30分ほど並んだ後で、ようやく受付に進むことができた。
クレデンシアルを渡して、コンポステラーナを受け取る。
ラテン語で書かれていたが、なんとなく内容は分かったから、友人たちに、帰国したら日本語の訳を送ると約束した。

Walking to the right side of the cathedral, we found the Pilgrim's Office, where we were to get "Compostelana" that testifies our pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. When we were waiting in line, I hoped to meet some of the pilgrims that I had met on Camino, but I couldn't. After about thirty minutes, we got the Compostelana, which was written in Latin. So I promised my friends to translate it into Japanese.

Andando hacia el lado derecho de la catedral, encontramos la Oficina de Peregrinos, donde íbamos a conseguir "Compostelana" que testimonia nuestra peregrinación a Santiago de Compostela. 残る距離はあとわずか。
少し雲が残る空の下、古い建物が残るサンティアゴ市内を歩く。

遠くに小さく大聖堂らしき建物が見えてきた。

狭い石畳の道を抜けて、大聖堂脇の教会を通り過ぎると、広場に到着した。
巡礼者と観光客が大勢いて、これだけたくさんの人を見るのはポルトマリーンのお祭り以来だった。
我々も他の人たちにならって、ひとしきり写真を撮った。

大聖堂を見上げていると、これまでの道のりが思い出されて、複雑な気持ちになった。
楽しかった巡礼の旅は、確実に終わりへと近付いている。

Through the stone pavements, we finally came to the square in front of the Cathedral, where many pilgrims and tourists were taking photos. As we took photos, I looked up the Cathedral, which made me complicated. The end was near. 目指せ大聖堂 / Toward the Cathedral / Hacia la Catedral

【写真1：サンティアゴの鉄道（2008年9月12日）】

モンテ・ド・ゴソから坂を下って行くと、橋が見えてきた。しかし、越えるのは川ではなく鉄道である。これまで山のなかのカミーノを歩いてきて、車道は幾度も目にする機会があったが、鉄道はマドリード以来だろうか。

何だか久しぶりに現実に引き戻されたような、そんな感じがした。

そこから橋を渡り、サンティアゴ市内を歩く。街はこれまでカミーノで見た中では一番大きいと思った。歩いても歩いても、街を抜けられない。歩いていると、軽く雨が降り出したので、いつものようにカッパを着て歩いたが、雨はすぐに止んでしまった。

少し迷いながら、大聖堂まではあと少し。

After a while, we saw a bridge, but it was not for a river but a railway. While we were walking on Camino de Santiago, we didn't see any railways, so it made me feel a little strange. Después de un tiempo, vimos un puente, pero no fue por un río, sino un ferrocarril. Mientras andabamos en el Camino, no veíamos ningún ferrocarril, por lo que me hizo sentir un poco extraño. Cuando estabamos caminando en la ciudad de Santiago, me pareció que es la ciudad más grande del Camino. Entonces llovía un poco, pero pronto se detuvo. Un poco quedado hasta la Catedral. 今日は9月12日。

アストルガを出発した9月2日から数えて11日目。
いよいよ、最終的な目的地であるサンティアゴ・デ・コンポステーラに到着する日である。
……とは言っても、モンテ・ド・ゴソからは10kmもない。
二時間も歩けば着いてしまう距離である。

朝6時ごろに一度起きてトイレに向かった時に、ぼんやりとそんなことを考えて、何だか寂しい気持ちになった。

結局、いつもよりも少し遅め7時30分に起きた。
今日はガリシア自治政府の方々との昼食会があるということで、女性陣はいつもより多少念入りに化粧をしていたりして、何だか大変そうだったけれど、我々男性陣はスーツを持ってくるわけにもいかなかったので、いつもどおりの格好で歩いていくことにした。

出発すると、落書きが道端で「もう少しだ」と見守ってくれている。

El 12 de septiembre es el día undécimo en el Camino de Santiago y el día que ibamos a llegar a Santiago de Compostela. Solo algunos kilometros nos habían quedado, así que teníamos que andar más o menos dos horas. Cuando comenzamos desde Monte do Gozo, un graffiti nos dieron la bienvenida en la carretera.
